Nathan Birch est né à Lansing au Michigan, le 9 octobre 1978. Sa famille déménagea au Canada dès son jeune âge, et il fut élevé à Edmonton, en Alberta. C’est en complétant son Baccalauréat en Beaux-Arts au Alberta College of Art and Design de Calgary qu’il apprit à raffiner son sens personnel de l’esthétique et sa quête de qualité. L’été qui suivi sa graduation, il entreprit une période intensive de dessins en plein-air à travers l’Alberta, pendant laquelle il chercha à étendre le registre de sa peinture, tout en conservant le paysage comme sujet de prédilection.

Peu après cette expérience, Nathan pu se consacrer à sa peinture à temps complet. En 2004, Nathan déménagea à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique, et élargit la gamme de ses sujets en y incluant les paysages somptueux de la Côte Ouest canadienne, sa luminosité, ses textures et son territoire complexes. Nathan est représenté par la Galerie Paul Kuhn à Calgary, les Galeries Douglas Udell à Edmonton et Vancouver, ainsi que la Galerie Mira Godard à Toronto.
