Burke, Brian

b. 1952
Brian Burke was born in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on August 5, 1952. He studied design at Holland College (1971-73), and Fine Art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (1974). His work has been supported by the P.E.I.Council of the Arts and by the Canada Council for the Arts. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.The paintings are in a figurative tradition with an emhasis placed on an even balance between form and content. The work contains elements of social commentary sometimes employing satire. A more universal reading of the work alludes to isolation and alienation in today’s society.
