Médam, Yves

b. 1960
Yves was born in France in 1960, and landed in Canada in 1983 to further his studies. In 1986, he obtained a Visual Arts diploma from Université de Montréal, with a major in Cinematography and a minor in Studio Arts. Some years later, Yves went back to college in order to specialize in the field of photography. He obtained a diploma from Cégep du Vieux Montréal en 1996. Some years later, he decides to return to college in order to study photography.

The production of his artworks and his career as a professional photographer developed simultaneously. From 2003, Medam began to collect various prizes recognizing his skill, among them the coveted Lux prize, which he was presented with on four occasions, as well as the 2007-2008 Applied Arts Photography & Illustration Award. During his 2007 residency at the Sagamie Center, he printed a series of works entitled “Durée d’une métamorphose (passages)”. This body of work was then presented at the NDG Maison de la Culture, as his first ever solo exhibition, in the autumn of 2007; it garnered warm reactions from critics and collectors alike.
