Doreen Wittenbols est née aux Pays-Bas en 1974, et est arrivée au Canada alors qu’elle était enfant. Actuellement elle vit et travaille à Amsterdam, où elle est retournée en 2005. L’essence de son œuvre consiste en une série de peintures à l’huile figuratives de grande taille, élaborées à partir de photographies personnelles, de divers matériaux trouvés et d’accessoires symboliques. Après avoir exploré pendant un certain temps sa propre image dans des tableaux performance, Doreen a ensuite demandé à des amis et des collègues de poser pour ses toiles, tout en poussant davantage sa recherche sur les thèmes de la vulnérabilité, la maladresse et l’intimité. Ses œuvres ont été exposées en Ontario et au Québec, à Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Berlin et Londres.
